Route 325
6 November 2001

Barking (BK) garage has a large allocation of Dennis Darts with several different combinations of length, layout and bodybuilder, as well as a few non-low-floor Darts hanging on, and in practice these get rather mixed up between different routes. SLD 139 (V139 MVX), reposing at East Beckton Savacentre on the 325, is a rare 9.4m Pointer 2 bodied Dart SLF with dual doors. The 325, and 300, should really be worked by 10.2m dual door examples; most of the other Darts at BK are similar but ALX200 bodied for recently won route 62, 287, 364 and 366, while there are some extra long ones for the 145 and some short wheelbase ones (including SLD 139) without any particular allocation!

The 325 was created in the Newham area scheme of 25 September 1993, initially being worked by elongated MCW Metrorider and Optare Starrider minibuses from Upton Park garage. It combined the Prince Regent — Forest Gate leg of route 278 (which was withdrawn) with a new service along Katherine Road in East Ham and a link to the new Savacentre at East Beckton. This made it an (upside down) U-shape!

To begin with there was no Sunday service; that came in 1997, when the route was also diverted to serve the new Showcase Cinema in East Beckton. Buses also serve Jenkins Lane and Park Avenue, instead of running non-stop along the North Circular Road as originally.
